Moving to Florida
You're moving to Florida! After you have packed and located Florida moving companies, it's time to sit back and discover more about this lively (and hot) state that you will soon call home.

Commonly referred to as "The Sunshine State," Florida was discovered by the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon who was seeking the "Fountain of Youth." It was claimed under Spain and later England, until it was finally sold to the U.S. in 1819.

The area is now home to a rich population (fourth largest is the U.S) that is located on 65,758 square miles of land. Florida is also considered a premier destination for its warm and subtropical climate. Many people are relocating to the area - making it an excellent location for families and seniors or those who simply love warm weather.

Population: The states population is approximately 18,537,969 in 2009 and growing. The state is renowned as an idea location for retirees due to its relatively low cost of living and gorgeous subtropical climate.

Local Activities: There is so much to see and do when you relocate to Florida. The area is home to numerous national parks such as the Dry Tortugas National Park, Fort Caroline National Memorial and Everglades National Park. Florida is also home to numerous theme parks and attractions that make a great destination for the whole family. There is Universal Studios and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay and of course the gorgeous beaches.

Economy: The main industries in Florida include food processing, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. Food processing is also huge in Florida where oranges, grapefruit, potatoes, melons, lemons, limes, sugar cane and peanuts are produced.

State Bird: Florida's state bird is the mocking bird - characterized by its beautiful singing voice and animated movement. The mocking bird is also the state bird for Arkansas and Tennessee.

State Flower: The state flower is the fragrant and very beautiful orange blossom, which grows wild throughout the state.

State Song: The state song of Florida is "Swanee River." It was written by Stephen Foster.

State Reptile: The state reptile in Florida is the American alligator.

  • Major tourist attractions in Florida include: Miami Beach, Palm Beach, Key West, Daytona Beach and Ft. Lauderdale.

  • The NASA Kennedy Space Center is located in Florida, another exciting tourist attraction.

There have been many famous people were born and raised in Florida and many famous people call Florida their home today. The singer Pat Boone and the actress Faye Dunaway are both from Florida, as well as the actor Burt Reynolds and the singer Jim Morrison.
