Estimated at $65,000, West Palm Beach boasts one of the highest median household incomes in the state. In less than a century, the West Palm Beach area has developed from a resort area to a cosmopolitan metropolis. History:
Henry Flagler founded West Palm Beach in 1894; originally to house servants working at hotels on nearby Palm Beach. Many of the city’s historic structures were created in the 1920s as residence watched the city blossom. When Henry Morrison Flagler first arrived in 1893, he called the Lake Worth region "a veritable paradise" and decided upon a plan for the new area. He planned to turn Palm Beach into a resort. His plan would include the construction of a commercial city across the lake for the resorts workers. At the time, few could have predicted that that "worker city" would later become beautiful West Palm Beach. From 1920 to 1927, the city's population grew drastically, and everything from schools, to the farming and sugar businesses within the city experienced growth. In the years following 1945, West Palm Beach moved into a new era of progress. At the end of the 1990s, the population of West Palm Beach was growing by more than 20%. West Palm Beach is now home to over 100,000 permanent residents, making the city the largest community in Palm Beach County.

In addition to the city’s options of beautiful outdoor activities, West Palm Beach also offers plenty of activities for the sports fan in the family. Located only an hour south of West Palm Beach is the well-known city of Miami, home of the Miami Heat and the Miami Dolphins. The city also hosts the MLB’s baseball spring training every April.
