New Port Richey, Florida

New Port Richey is often called the “Little City by the River.” Located in Pasco County in Florida, New Port Richey is an entertaining and relaxing environment. Check out our detailed listings of apartments and homes for sale so that you can quickly relocate to New Port Richey.

History:
Named after Captain Aaron Richey, who came from Missouri and established neighboring Port Richey in the 1880s, New Port Richey was founded in 1911 and incorporated in 1924. Initially the developers hoped to attract the west coast movie industry to Florida, and silent-film stars Thomas Meighan and Gloria Swanson certainly made their presence known. This attracted others and soon mansions began springing up along the Pithlachascotee River. The Meighan Theatre opened on Grand Boulevard in 1925 with over 300 seats – today this fabulous old building still stands as a community stage production venue. Various screen stars followed to set up holiday mansions with names like Irving Berlin, Ed Wynn, Harry Miller and William Zimmer among them. Paramount Pictures were near creating an impressive motion picture studio until the Great Depression intervened Since then New Port Richey’s reputation as a tropical tourist destination has gone on from strength to strength.

Economy:
This is a pulsating mainly-residential community with an effective local government and a “must see” historical downtown and main street. Growth and redevelopment among a broad array of businesses and retail services is clearly evident, including landscaping along the riverfront. Visit The City of New Port Richey website to gain in-depth information on many activities and events in the area. As part of the Greater Tampa area, New Port Richey provides access to all that a world-class tourist destination should offer, be it work, business, commerce or plain fun-filled recreation that you have in mind!

Tourism:
Well just for starters New Port Richey covers a total area of 4.6 square miles of pristine land including spectacular nearby beaches, fantastic shops and a cultural blend all of its own. Pasco County is regarded as one of the fastest growing Counties in Florida and New Port Richey has seen an increasing rate of new residents and visitors arriving every year. With the Gulf of Mexico coastline bordering on the west side and the Pithlachascotee River running through the center of town, there is so much to do and see in this corner of paradise. Check the Pasco County Visitor website for the details of upcoming events and all the attractions.
