Hybrid water heaters could help homeowners save on their utility bills

April 28, 2010 - As the cost of heating a home continues to rise, many homeowners are searching for ways to reduce their utility bills without living in frigid houses or sacrificing hot water. Fortunately, many water heater manufacturers are answering the demand for energy efficient appliances that can save these individuals money.

For example, A.O. Smith recently announced the availability of its Vortex model, an Energy Star-rated hybrid electric water heater. This system operates using heat pump technology, which pulls heat out of the surrounding air and transfers it into the water tank. Consequently, the water heater is able to operate using less electricity than conventional models.

Company officials say that the model could pay for itself in energy savings in three years or less and save homeowners a great deal of money on their utility bills. On average, individuals who install this appliance are expected to save more than $300 annually.

Furthermore, the model will qualify purchasers for a Federal Tax credit totaling 30 percent of the water heater's installed cost.
