Home security getting smarter

March 24, 2011 - A report says families moving into a new home for the first time may want to consider home security measures that have become more sophisticated as technology improves.

According to AOL Real Estate, new home security systems can be programmed to be sensitive to a wide range of expected motions, preventing motion detectors from being set off by everyday occurrences, such as children coming home from school. Additionally, some systems will alert families via email when something out of the ordinary happens - whether it be an intruder or simply an unexpected package delivery. This can help cut down on constant checks of surveillance cameras that turn up no results.

Wireless technology has also allowed families to set up features in areas that were once too hard to reach, and improved designs make arming an alarm system similar to using a smartphone, said the source. In addition, new systems are normally portable enough to be brought along when a family decides to pack their moving boxes and buy another home.

The DIY Network also suggests relocating families scour their potential new home for security threats before buying it. Changing locks are a necessity, while potential buyers should be sure to be aware of areas where intruders could possibly hide or break in.
