Truman Capote's Brooklyn Heights home gets an offer

May 10, 2011 - The Brooklyn Heights mansion that served as Truman Capote's home while he was writing his best-seller, In Cold Blood, has gotten two offers from perspective homebuyers this month, according to The New York Daily News.

Built in 1839, the home boasts 11 bedrooms, seven-and-a-half bathrooms and two eat-in kitchens, according to Sotheby's International Realty, the realtors who are listing the 70 Willow Street property. There is also an artist's studio and a library on the premises. The property originally hit the real estate market last year with an $18 million asking price, but was re-listed at $15.9 million in January.

Capote, who also penned Breakfast at Tiffany's, was the subject of a 2005 movie chronicling his writing of In Cold Blood. Phillip Seymour Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the author.

Capote rented the garden apartment in the historic home from 1955 through 1965 from Broadway art director Oliver Smith, and was known to throw extravagant parties in the space. If the home sells for the current asking price, it will go on record as the priciest Brooklyn townhouse ever, according to the Zillow Blog.
