Laird Hamilton and Gabby Reece selling in Haiku

July 22, 2011 - World-renowned big wave surfer Laird Hamilton and his volleyball spiking wife Gabrielle Reece have recently listed one of their Hawaiian properties on the island's real estate market, according to Curbed.

Both Reece and Hamilton are former models turned athletes, and while the pair split briefly, they quickly reconciled. They now split their time between Hawaii, where Hamilton grew up and Malibu, California, according to The Real Estalker.

The home is situated in a small unincorporated town in Maui called Haiku, according to the source. With four bedrooms, four bathrooms and 5,000 square feet of living space the estate is somewhere between modest and massive. The first floor boasts a large in-home gym, which has probably gotten significant use from the athletic couple.

The oak-floored second story has an exposed beam, pitched wood ceiling and a bevy of sliding glass doors through which homeowners can take in sweeping views of ocean and vale. A wraparound second-floor veranda adds to the indoor-outdoor feel of the home, the source reports.

Homebuyers can settle in and unpack the moving boxes for $2.75 million. The price boils down to a whopping $429.69 per square foot. While that may seem like a pretty penny, it is below the norm for Haiku, where homes typically sell for $576.39 per square foot, according to Hawaii Life Real Estate Services.
