Homebuyers may seek specific services, features

January 20, 2010 - As the real estate market continues to struggle, prospective homebuyers may be able to make special requests for features and services during the negotiation process.

In order to attract prospective homeowners, several builders have launched partnerships with service companies to include conveniences, such as home repair and maintenance, in the cost of a new home.

While services such as housekeeping, on-site healthcare and transportation are generally featured in active lifestyle or retirement communities, many builders are bringing these amenities to new developments, according to a recent report from the National Association of Homebuilders.

Because members of younger generations are seeking technological features, some home sellers may be more likely to include up-to-date appliances or electrical features to make their properties more attractive to buyers.

Families who have older relatives may want to request technical upgrades that improve accessibility, such as chair lifts on staircases or ramps that lead up to a home's entrance.

Individuals who wish make technical improvements to their homes may consider purchasing energy-efficient appliances, which could earn them a rebate on their taxes under the government's upcoming Cash for Appliances initiative.
