Moving to California
Moving to California makes sense. Not only for its beautiful beaches, sun-filled afternoons and towering palm trees, but also for its low cost of living, good employment opportunities and excellent choice of apartments and houses. The mountains of the state provide excellent terrain for hiking and biking, or get involved in snowboarding or skiing at one of the states many resorts located in cities such as Lake Tahoe. Local Activities: California truly has it all: miles of beautiful beaches, mysterious deserts and snow-filled mountains. Economy: In the 19th century, the California Gold Rush brought about dramatic social, economic, and demographic change in California. Key developments in the early 20th century included the emergence of Los Angeles as hub of the American entertainment industry, and the growth of a large, statewide tourism sector. In addition to California's prosperous agricultural industry, other important contributors to the economy include aerospace, petroleum, and information technology. With a GDP similar to that of Italy, if California were a country, it would rank the 20th largest economies in the world.

State Bird: The California quail (Lophortyx californica), also known as the valley quail, became the official state bird in 1931.

State Tree: The official tree in California is the redwood.

California - Interesting Facts:
  • More turkeys are raised in California than in any other state in the U.S.

  • The first motion picture theater opened in Los Angeles on April 2, 1902.
  • If California's economic size were measured by itself to other countries, it would rank the seventh largest economy in the world.
