History:
Founded in 1781 as the Village of Our Lady by Spanish governor, Felipe de Neve. Los Angeles later became a part of Mexico in 1821 as a result of Spain’s independence. Following the Mexican-American War in 1848, the entire state of California (including Los Angeles) was purchased and became a part of the U.S and achieved its statehood in 1850. In 1892, oil was discovered in Los Angeles and in 1913 an aqueduct was developed, which supplied Los Angeles with clean water. The 1920s saw the beginnings of the motion picture industry.

The city of Los Angeles is a major commercial center for international trade, entertainment, technology, fashion, finance and communication. The area is home to major financial institutions such as Wells Fargo, Washington Mutual, as well as the home of 20th Century Fox, The Jim Henson Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sunkist Growers.

There are many things to see and do in Los Angeles. You can enjoy a day at the beach or visit one of the areas local museums, which include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Getty Center. Visitors and residents can also enjoy a numerous sporting events in Los Angeles such as the Lakers, Clippers, Kings, Dodgers, and many other professional and collegiate teams.
