Homeowners and renters can choose cost-saving appliances

January 19, 2010 - Individuals who are planning on moving may want to consider purchasing new energy-efficient models of appliances that can save them money on their utility bills.

Whirlpool recently unveiled more sustainable washer-and-dryer duos in its Duet line, which are expected to save homeowners and renters up to $1,000 on their water and energy bills over the course of 10 years.

These machines feature options that allow consumers to do their laundry when utility costs are low, as their AccuDry cycles require 10 percent less energy than a conventional dryer and a Delay Wash setting enables individuals to schedule a wash up to 18 hours in advance.

While models of this kind only cost approximately $600 each, individuals who are not in the financial position to purchase new appliances have other home improvement options to decrease energy usage.

Infeon Technologies has introduced a series of power-switching devices that can reduce the energy consumption of existing appliances by up to 30 percent.

These tools are intended to increase the efficiency of washing machines, refrigerator compressors, inverterised air conditioners and dishwashers, which can help homeowners lower their bills without splurging on new machines.
