Satellite TV companies will bring Tetris to the small screen

February 16, 2010 - Homeowners who subscribe to satellite TV may soon have a new use for their remote - Tetris.

Oberon Media, a casual games company, and the Tetris Company have launched a partnership with Dish Network to create Tetris TV, a new service that will allow satellite customers to play the game on their televisions.

For a fee of $2.99 per month, Dish Network subscribers will receive access to two levels of Tetris - Marathon, which has 15 levels and challenges players to clear 40 lines as fast as possible, and the classic version.

These customers will be able to play individual games using their remotes. Executives from all of the companies expect to develop multi-player version in the future, through which subscribers will be able to compete against one another.

Jonathan Boltax, senior director of iTV programming for Oberon, told the media outlet that the program was created to satiate "the public's ravenous appetite to play casual games on all platforms."

In addition to Dish Network, Oberon currently has similar gaming partnerships with Cablevision, DirecTV and BellExpressVU, which could prove beneficial to homeowners who wish to add gaming options to their television packages.
