Students, nonprofit organizations to collaborate on real estate development

April 20, 2010 - In an effort to keep students and nonprofit organizations connected to those in need, Chase and Enterprise Community Partners have announced the launch of their 15th annual Chase Community Development Competition.

This year, entrants will be challenged to devise original plans to revitalize low- to moderate-income communities in the New Orleans area. Students from across the country are invited to bring their ideas to life with the help of a nonprofit community development partner. The first, second and third place winners will receive development grants in the amounts of $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000, respectively.

Students are required to work in teams comprised of six to eight individuals, who may hail from different schools. With the help of their nonprofit sponsor, each team will develop a real estate development proposal that includes a financial analysis and architectural renderings.

Michelle Whetten, vice president and impact market leader for Enterprise, said that the competition is intended to help students "garner professional community development experience and work to bring much-needed community services to local neighborhoods - from grocery stores to small business incubators."
