Kentucky college ranks as South's best

November 16, 2010 - A strong record for academic success and unique benefits for students has many college freshmen packing their moving boxes and heading to Kentucky to study at Centre College.

The school ranked as the best college in the South in a top-25 list compiled by Forbes Magazine. The publication highlighted a number of unique benefits that Centre College students receive, including a guaranteed internship and even a free year of tuition if he or she doesn't graduate within four years. In addition, 98 percent of graduates at the college are able to find a job or further their studies within 10 months of graduating. The school has produced a number of renowned scholars, political figures and even one chief justice of the United States.

Centre was not the only school to receive high marks. Many students moving to Houston attend the list's second-place school, Rice University, while those relocating to Annapolis, Maryland to attend the United States Naval Academy would enjoy free tuition. Washington and Lee University in Virginia and Duke University in North Carolina rounded out the top five.

Of course, picking a great college is one thing - finding a place to live while studying is another. A report from Coldwell Banker Real Estate showed that many college students today are moving into rental homes that are bought and owned by their parents - who are often using the property as an investment opportunity.
