Employment enjoyed increase in December

January 12, 2011 - A new report shows more consumers might have the steady job security they need to consider packing their moving boxes.

The Department of Labor reported that the economy added 103,000 new jobs in December from the previous month. While the surge was lower than some analysts expected, it helped lower the nation's unemployment rate from 9.8 percent in November to 9.4 percent last month. It was the lowest that rate has been since May 2009, suggesting to some that the economy was moving in the right direction toward the end of 2010.

"While we have seen steady job growth in the past year, faster job growth is needed in 2011 to help bring down the unemployment rate and put those Americans who lost jobs during the recession back to work," said Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis.

The report also showed that a high number of workers actually stopped looking for a job, which played a part in reducing the unemployment rate. Still, a lower rate could convince some buyers that economy is strong enough to support the housing market once again.

Reports show many workers are changing up their job-seeking habits as they seek employment around the country. A survey from CareerBuilder reported that many more are willing to move to other parks of the country for work, and 33 percent of employers say they're willing to pay relocation assistance for select employees.
