Curb appeal king in home selling

March 22, 2011 - Sellers trying to accelerate their moving plans and market their home in a more attractive way should consider making certain upgrades to increase their curb appeal, suggests one expert.

Writing for AOL Real Estate, Barbara Green, the founder of Sensibly Chic Interior Design, said a home's appearance has a psychological effect on homebuyers. Before they've even entered a home, buyers have likely developed an expectation of its interior based off the exterior look. If a lawn is well-maintained and the home's facade in top shape, buyers will expect a great-looking interior. They'll enter a home with a negative mindset if the front yard is shabby.

Once they've committed to relocating, families ought to fix up their exterior by washing away mildew, repairing broken glass or fixtures, and fixing patches of dead grass in the lawn. Keeping the lawn mowed and maintained while accentuating its features with colorful flowers will help raise curb appeal. Minor fixes, like repairing a squeaky front door or broken doorbell, or making sure garbage cans and toys are kept out of the front yard, can also help, said the report.

Experts add that top-notch real estate photography can also draw a higher number of interested buyers and help sellers hire a moving company and sell their home quicker.
