Move-up buyers may have unique moving concerns

July 16, 2012 - While many people purchasing a new home may take a lot of time paring down what they need to have the moving company pack up, some move-up buyers may have the opposite problem - needing to fill a number of new rooms.

For those moving into a larger property, they will need to seriously reevaluate the furnishings they will need in their new home.

For example, a small couch may have been perfectly suitable for an apartment or condo, but it may be insufficient for the living room in a larger home where people plan to entertain. In addition, the new property may also have many new rooms for which a family has no furniture at all to place.

To help mitigate those issues, households may want to take stock in what furniture they have and what they realistically want to bring with them to their new property. Other items may need to be purchased before or after the move.

It may make sense for families to create a scale model of their new home's floor plan and see how their current furniture will fit. That can give them an idea of the scale of what they can realistically fit.
