Making moving with children simpler

June 15, 2010 - One of the reasons summer is such a popular time to move is because kids are out of school for summer break.

While the timing may be more convenient, moving with children can present its own challenges. Kids have their own worries that are distinct from their parents', a recent Rent.com survey found. Adults seem to be aware of these apprehensions, with 54 percent reporting taking that into consideration when relocating.

Parents worry about finding a large enough home (24 percent) and a safe neighborhood (61 percent), according to the survey. However, children's apprehensions are quite different. More than half are concerned with making friends in their new location, along with 18 who are percent nervous about feeling at home and 14 percent anxious about acclimation.

Certain steps can be taken by parents to ease the moving transition for their family. Kids should learn about the move as early as possible so they can acclimate to the idea of it, Rent.com said. Once they are settled into their new home, children should be also allowed to personalize their own rooms.
