E-Signing could help real estate agents close deals more quickly

March 26, 2010 - Individuals who are planning on moving to a new home may soon have one less hassle to deal with, which could make the homebuying process much simpler.

DocuSign and the National Association of Realtors have announced a partnership to create signature software that could speed closing negotiations.

The DocuSign Realtor Package will enable home sellers and buyers to sign documents from a desktop computer or smartphone as opposed to printing and faxing or mailing them. The software also guides users through the documents by telling them where to sign and sends e-mail notifications to parties who have not yet responded. In addition, it can provide an electronic record by keeping track of documents without signatures.

As moving day typically causes enough headaches for both buyers and sellers, this innovation could allow these individuals to focus on other aspects of relocation instead of stressing over paperwork.

Karl Lee, president of the Santa Clara County Association of Realtors, called the tool an attempt to "embrace technology" in order to provide "the most efficient, effective customer service for homebuyers and sellers."
