Civilians moving into Fort Bragg

October 29, 2010 - Fort Bragg in North Carolina welcomed 22 civilian workers from Georgia's Army Reserve Command as the military's Base Realignment and Closure Process wages on.

DVIDS News reports that most workers were able to enjoy a seamless relocation on moving day, and that they were just the latest in a large group of workers that will be moving to the base in the coming weeks. An additional 12 to 15 military and civilian employees will be moving in each week from now through the end of the year, said the report, and there were already 58 USARC workers from Georgia at Fort Bragg when moving trucks rolled up this week.

"The way we do it for the Army Reserve is pretty unique," Jim Ferguson, a member of the Reserve's BRAC liaison team, told the news source. "This is a civilian week, next week is all military. We're alternating weeks between civilian and military." By the end of the move, there should be about 200 USARC employees at Fort Bragg, he added.

BRAC has been gradually shutting down certain smaller military bases around the country in an effort to consolidate military operations at a handful of locations. The Washington Post recently reported that Maryland's Fort Meade has seen 7,000 workers relocating to the base within the past year as a result of the effort.
