Cam Newton is moving the show to Charlotte

May 2, 2011 - First round draft pick Cam Newton is trading in college living for the finest North Carolina digs his NFL contract can buy.

The would-be college senior officially joined the North Carolina Panthers on Friday after weeks of mock drafts and speculation. Amidst the hoopla, the quarterback was quoted by The News and Observer as saying "I am moving to Charlotte as soon as possible, and I am not going to listen to any naysayers, because I know that's going to keep on coming."

Naysayers aside, Newton now faces the daunting task of investing his celebrity in a community that has seen an influx of new residents in the recent past. Newton's made strides to show he's up to the task and eager to immerse himself in both the Panthers franchise and the city itself, as he already made an appearance at a Panthers charity event over the weekend.

Newton and his many new neighbors may help to define a city that ranks sixth in migration across the nation, according to the Charlotte Chamber.

So while he mulls over playbooks, Newton will also be perusing his new stomping grounds and choosing a place to call home. No word yet on whether or not his former Auburn teammates will act as his personal moving company.
