Presidential townhouse ready for the movers in Lenox Hill

August 26, 2011 - A Lenox Hill townhouse that once served as home base for first lady Eleanor Roosevelt was recently scooped off the real estate market in New York City, according to Curbed.

Mrs. Roosevelt reportedly lived in the space for five years but called the moving company and relocated in 1958. The building was landmarked in 1967 as part of the Treadwall Farm Historic District, the Real Deal reports.

Built in 1873, the home has four bedrooms, six bathrooms and an elevator to take residents between floors, which should come in pretty handy on moving day. The space also has period details including wood paneling, claw foot tubs and marble tile floors, the source explains.

With five floors of living space, a basement and a roof deck, the home will afford the new homeowners much more space than the typically New York City spread. Residents can also enjoy two gardens - one roof deck installation that measures 950 square feet and another 700-square-foot ground-level garden in the rear of the building that comes complete with a working fountain, according to Curbed.

In addition to the top rate amenities, the new owners also got a great deal on the townhouse. The property sold for $9.5 million, roughly $5 million less than the original asking price and nearly $1 million less than the previous owners paid for it in 2004, the source reports.
