Moving Guide - Moving with your Pet!

Reptiles
Is your son’s snake coming along for the move? There are strict government regulations related to the entry of reptiles into most states. After you have ensured that it is permissible to bring your pet into your new location, refer to our tips to help you learn the best way to transport your reptile by air or automobile.

It is extremely important that your reptiles’ carrier is kept moist. You can ensure this by placing a dampened cloth or paper in the shipper to keep the surroundings slightly wet; it is a hazard to keep the carrier too wet.

Place your reptile in a cloth bag and secure the top, giving it enough room to spread out and move around. Then, place the bag in a shipping container. Make sure your reptile has proper ventilation when being transported by creating air holes in its shipper.

Do not ship reptiles in extreme weather—hot or cold—because they may be left outside for an extended period of time in the shipping container.

If staying in a hotel overnight fill the bathtub and allow your reptile to take a nice, long soak. However, you should inquire about the hotels’ pet policy before you do so.

Tips for Transporting Snakes
If your snake is venomous you must handle it with special care.

Many airlines require snakes to be double crated and labeled before coming aboard. The label should specify the type of snake and whether it is venomous or not.
