U2 guitarist The Edge loses bid to build in Malibu

June 20, 2011 - The Edge will evidently not be moving to the California coast. That is because the U2 guitarist, also known as David Evans, was thwarted in his attempt to build several homes on the Malibu coast last week, according to The Los Angeles Times.

It seems the veteran rock star has been striking out in several entrepreneurial endeavors lately. Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark, the Broadway musical featuring music composed by The Edge and his bandmate Bono, has fallen prey to criticism after several delays and a host of cast-member injuries.

The California Coastal Commission (CCC) denied The Edge's request to build five mansions in a hillside location that overlooks the ocean. The decision was a result of an eight to four vote made last week. The CCC decided that contractors would cause too much environmental damage to warrant the homes' construction.

The musician has reportedly been attempting to get approval to build five homes in the Sweetwater Mesa area of Malibu since 2006, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal. The source also reports that commission members feared approving the construction would prompt environmentally damaging building requests from other area homeowners.
