President Obama's college apartment listed for rent

July 24, 2012 - For the first time in months, President Barack Obama is not making headlines regarding healthcare reform or the election, as news sources are buzzing about his former New York City apartment. While the Commander in Chief won't likely be moving boxes back into the unit, the Upper West Side pad is available to rent for $2,400 a month.

The president resided in the apartment with a roommate while attending Columbia University in the 1980s, when the rent was a significantly lower price of $360. The now historic rental is located on West 109th street in Midtown, an up-and-coming neighborhood full of New York college students with a busy nightlife.

The third-floor apartment offers two bedrooms and one bathroom, with classic city design and functionality provided by a galley kitchen, hardwood floors and walls of exposed brick. The unit reportedly underwent a number of renovations since occupied by Obama, but the famous former renter has made it a popular listing, according to new reports, as the listing agent had been showing the unit frequently but has yet to find a tenant.
