Tips for home sellers during the economic downturn

February 11, 2010 - Real estate owners who wish sell their homes during the turbulent economy may use several strategies that can make their property more marketable to potential buyers, according to Phoenix, Arizona-based realtor Christa Lawcock.

Naming a home can make it more memorable and intriguing to homebuyers. Giving the house a unique name with a story behind it could enable viewers to create a personal connection and help them remember the property as they embark on their search for a new home.

Home sellers can meet prospective buyers prior to listing their home by hosting a party and inviting neighbors and their friends. Buyers may prefer to live near people they know for social and security reasons, so friends of neighbors could prove to be a great market for sellers.

During showings, homeowners may want to considering opening their blinds or turning on lights to make their homes look larger and more active. In addition, conjoining rooms through a similar color, theme or sound could make a house feel more connected.

Comfortable sitting areas may help potential buyers feel welcome. Providing water bottles and freshly baked cookies can also help visitors feel at ease in what could be their new home.
