Comcast brings cable TV right to your computer

December 16, 2010 - For those who have embraced watching television on their laptop, a plethora of new shows will soon be available online through Comcast.

According to the New York Times, Comcast customers can now watch many new tv programs online that previously had not been available on the internet through its new "Fancast Xfinity TV" service.

As the first major cable company to introduce a streaming site, the company hopes to maintain customer loyalty to cable programming even if it is through a computer, reports the newspaper.

Initially, this service will only be available to customers who subscribe to the company's broadband internet and digital cable services. Customers will have to log into the Xfinity service and install a program before using it for the first time.

Tom Blaxland, a senior director of product for Comcast Interactive Media, told the newspaper, "There's an astounding amount of content that has not been online before."

Some of Comcast's partners in the service include: A&E, AMC, Discovery Channel, History, TLC and TNT.

This technological advancement may appeal to future homeowners and renters who are quick to embrace the next new thing.
