Evidence has also been found that proves the existence of trade between the original settlers and the American Indians who were living in the area.

The city was however plunged into economic depression after it was hit by several floods successively, ending with what has been called the “great flood” of 1921. A lot of buildings and businesses were lost due to the natural disaster.
