Scale and Size

Size is a relative term and people generally compare the size of an object to their own body size. Relative size is more important in decorating than absolute size. Objects in a space should be to a scale that is pleasing to the eye. Of course, included in relative size is the concept of scale. For example, if your home has high ceilings you may want to look at larger pieces of furniture to be in proportion to the scale of the room.

Variety and Harmony
Harmony refers to how all the elements come together to make a total unified look. Creating a unified look is key to a successful design, however variety is also important. Variety does not mean having elements in the room that are totally out of place. Variety can be added using color, texture, patterns and so on.
