Clearing a Clogged Toilet

Sunday, February 13, 2011 -

By Relocation.com Staff

Although not pretty, unclogging a toilet is a neccessary skill for all homeowners  and even renters -- plumbing ain't cheap, you know! The clog may be the result of a blockage in the trap. The trap is the current passage inside the toilet bowl.

A chemical drain cleaner should not be used on a toilet. In general, it will not remove the clog and only leaves a very small chemical smell in the bowl until the clog is cleared.

Always cover the area around in the toilet -- newspaper or old towels are ideal. Also, be sure use rubber gloves and thorougly wash your hands and clothes with disinfectant soap following any handling of the toilet water or waste.
