Hamilton, Ohio

Hamilton is a part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is known to have the best school district in Ohio. The city has garnered many awards including the Public Gas Achievement, Reliable Public Water Provider and the “Best of the Best” Water Taste awards for 2010. With a population of 843,303, the people of Hamilton are known for having small town charms in a big city with modern amenities. This makes the city a great place to start a family - making Hamilton movers so busy.

Economy:
Iron works and manufacturing was the main industry of Hamilton in the early 1920s. It had many skilled German workers and an abundant water supply coming from the nearby Great Miami River and the Miami and Erie Canal system. It was also the second largest manufacturing center for the U.S. during the Second World War.

What used to be a very industrial area has now turned into a bedroom community or a residential area. The local government, in their Comprehensive Plan, focuses on improving the high quality and livability of the environment to enhance the image of the city. The city’s new focus is a prime consideration for families moving to Hamilton.

Currently Hamilton is developing business parks or industrial land development that provide sale or lease for future development projects and opportunities.

History:
Hamilton was originally laid out as a part of Farfield Ohio. The city took its current name from Fort Hamilton, an army post named after Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton during the fight with the Indians. From 1815 to 1867 Hamilton was incorporated with Roseville and the townships of St. Claire and Farfield. On the 14th of March 1867, it formed a “paper township” nevertheless authority in the area remained with the government.

The city of Hamilton had many German and Italian immigrants. Both have a great influence on the culture, food and architecture of the area. In fact, it was named the “City of Sculpture” on August 16, 2000 due to its support and promotion of the arts, especially public sculptures.

During World War II, Hamilton was the manufacturing site for many supplies and vehicles used in the war.

Since 1986, Hamilton wanted to increase its publicity and has established a city website to promote tourism and investment in the area.

Tourism:
There are numerous amusement parks, botanical gardens and historical sites that are only a few miles of travel away. In the city of Mason, east of Hamilton, you will find the Kings Island, which is one of the best amusement parks in the country. The Beach Waterpark, which is a perfect summer getaway for the family is also a great destination for anyone staying in the area. To the South of Hamilton, you will find the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, to the North, the Campbell Gard, a YMCA camp.

Colleges and Universities:

Interesting Facts:

  • During the World War II, Hamilton was very popular for its gambling and prostitution establishments. This prompted the government to prohibit the entry of military personnel into the city.
  • As a publicity measure, the actual name of the city has an exclamation mark at the end. So the official name of the city is “Hamilton!”
