Cincinnati, Ohio

Nestled on the hills of the Ohio River, Cincinnati, Ohio has the persona and allure of a big city, with the stature of a dependable and progressive business center. Home to its share of Fortune 500 companies and an assorted roster of stable small, medium and large-sized businesses within its borders, Cincinnati offers virtually everything you will need for a successful business future. When moving to Cincinnati, be prepared to experience solid and comfortable neighborhoods, strong family ties and the resources vital to a globally aware community.

History:
Established in the late 18th, Cincinnati’s prime location on the banks of the Ohio quickly made it a popular destinations in what was at the time known sas the West. The 19th Century saw extraordinary growth, as the city became a major supply hub for exploration and settlement further west. It became the country’s center for meatpacking for a number of years, and even carried the nickname “Porkopolis.” Cincinnati played a major role in the abolitionist movement, as people from around the state made their way to the city to voice their argument for the end of slavery across the river in the neighboring state of Kentucky. As the industrial sector in the United States showed signs of decline, growth slowed; however, it was not enough to keep the city down for long. Cincinnati weathered the Great Depression better than most American cities of its size, mostly due to a resurgence of inexpensive river trade. The renovation of downtown began in the 1920s and continued into the following decade with the construction of Union Terminal, the post office and the Bell Telephone building. After World War II, Cincinnati unveiled a plan for an urban rebirth that resulted in modernization of the inner city.

Economy:
Cincinnati's diversified economy is comprised of manufacturing, government, retail trade, education and health services, finance and transportation. Known worldwide as the home to Procter & Gamble soap products and U.S. Playing Cards, nationally the city ranks high for its value of manufacturing shipments. Ten Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio and include American Financial, Omnicare, The Kroger Co., Fifth Third Bancorp, Omnicare, Procter & Gamble Co. and Western & Southern Financial. The city is also home to over 350 other Fortune 500 companies operating in Cincinnati, and more than 1,000 area firms have help cement Cincinnati's position as an international trade center. Foreign investment in the local economy is also significant, with more than 300 Cincinnati-area firms presently owned by companies in Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and Canada. Toyota, one of the city’s leading employers, chose the greater Cincinnati area for its North American manufacturing plant because, in the words of its Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs, "The area has an excellent transportation system, a world-class airport, an excellent quality of life and a positive business climate." In 2003, Expansion Management magazine ranked the city 11th for European investment.

Tourism:
Explore Cincinnati's parks, which offer an outstanding collection of public art and architecture. Then, check out The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. Rated one of the top zoos in the nation by Zagat Survey, this park is perfect for the animal lover in us all. More than 1.2 million people visit the zoo’s award-winning exhibits, 500 animals and 3,000 plant species annually. You will find naturalistic habitats featuring animals from every continent, as well as more than 20 blossoming gardens. Next, have some fun in the underwater tunnels, see-through floors and walk-around exhibits at the Newport Aquarium. Showcases over 7,000 aquatic creatures from around the world, this aquarium was ranked the best in Midwest. Looking to cool off? Head over to Beach Waterpark and experience the over 40 wet thrill rides and attractions. Four! Finally, enjoy one of the city’s seven CRC golf courses. With course available for every handicap, Cincinnati is the perfect place to drive the green, putt for par and share a hole-in-one story.
