Cary, North Carolina

Cary, North Carolina lies almost entirely in Wake County, though some part is in Chatham County. The city is in the suburbs of Raleigh and is the third largest municipality in The Triangle after it and Durham. The Triangle region is known to be among the best places in the whole nation to live, work, find a home, start a business, raise a family and retire. In January 2004, the Money Magazine named Cary as one of the 'Six Hottest Towns in America' and the 'Hottest Town in the East.' In 2006, it was again named among the Best Small Cities in America. It's no wonder Cary moving companies are so busy.

Economy:
Cary has repeatedly ranked among the top towns. The volume of people moving to Cary has increased its population by more than 40 percent to 136,600. The median household income per annum is a very high $83,292. This makes it one of the richest cities with a very comfortable living. Home prices have been on the rise after the drop in 2008. The largest employer in the town is a software company called SAS Institute. The company is the world’s largest private software developer and employs more than 4,000 people in Cary. Other notable businesses include Infineon Technologies, Lord Corporation, Verizon, Deere & Company, Deutsche Bank, Epic Games, IntelliScanner Corporation and Cotton Incorporated. The high tech industry encourages young technology graduates into moving to Cary as it gives both the best working and living environment.

History:
Cary originally was known as Bradford’s Ordinary in 1750. By 1850, the settlement was linked to a major transportation route by the North Carolina Railroad between New Bern and Hillsborough. The founder is recognized to be Allison Francis Page. Page was a farmer and lumberman in Wake County who bought 300 acres of land surrounding the railroad junction in 1854. He started town development here and named the place Cary, after a former Ohio Congressman Samuel Fenton Cary whom he admired a lot. Page laid out the first roads and established a sawmill, a general store and a post office. In 1868, he built a hotel to accommodate passengers travelling through Cary. The place was incorporated in 1871 and Page became the first mayor. In 1879, the Raleigh and Augusta Air-Line Railroad started operations in Cary and spurred further growth.

Tourism:
Attractions in Cary include the Hemlock Bluffs State Natural Area, MacGregor Downs Lake, Hoffman Lake and the Holiday Acres Lake. Visitors can enjoy fishing, boating and picnics at the scenic places. There are also biking tracks and hiking tracks for the adventurous. There are also numerous parks in the city. The list includes Annie L. Jones Park, White Oak Park, Fred G. Bond Metro Park, Sears Farm Road Park and several others. Cary is a very peaceful place despite its large population. The residents also celebrate the Art Quilt Show, the Martin Luther King Jr. Dream-Fest and the Spring Daze Arts and Crafts Festival. The city is served by the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
