History:
Ridgewood started out as part of the Dutch settlement of Boswijk, or Bushwick and was incorporated into the village of Breuckelen, now Brooklyn. During the early twentieth century, New York City was developing at a pace and a lot of the construction workers were of Italian and German stock and traditionally grouped together in areas of New York State like Ridgewood and other parts of Queens. From the mid-twentieth century the ethnic make up of Ridgewood started changing to Eastern Europeans, particularly people from Poland, Latin Americans and, more recently folk from the Far East.
