Union City, New Jersey

Union City, New Jersey is located in Hudson County and is a part of the New York Metropolitan Area. Those moving to Union City will love being within close proxmity to such an amazing city.

Economy:
Union City forms part of an Urban Enterprise Zone which was established in 1983 by New Jersey Department of Commerce and Economic Development to encourage employment in the area and to help struggling businesses. Various incentives are offered to approximately 180 businesses in the project, including a sales tax of only 3.5 percent (as opposed to 7 percent elsewhere in the state) and the non-payment of tax by merchants on purchases made for business purposes. The proceeds collected from these and other incentives given by the UEZ are used to redevelop the commercial district of the city and to improve the business area of the City.

History:
The original inhabitants of the area now known as Union City were the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The City was officially incorporated in 1925.

Tourism:
Union City attracts thousands of tourists and visitors to participate in and enjoy its Cuban Day Parade and its passion play, the longest running such play in the United States.

The city sits at a high elevation on the Hudson Palisades and visitors have wonderful views of the New Jersey Meadowlands and the City of New York’s famous skyline.

The Hudson Presbyterian Church in West Street is an architectural jewel which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
