Annapolis, Maryland

Regarded as the 'Sailboat Capital of the World,' Annapolis is a great destination to really enjoy the outdoors. Those moving to Annapolis will discover their dream home right by the ocean and much more. On Relocation.com, we have several choice properties and apartment rentals for you to choose from. So don’t delay, start right away and keep in mind that we cover Ann Arundel County and all the other counties of Maryland, too.

History:
Back in the second-part of the 17th century Annapolis was named the Town at Proctor’s then the Town at Severn and then Anne Arundel’s Towne in honor of Lord Baltimore’s wife. During this time the English held authority over Maryland and continued to do so well into the 18th century. The town had its name changed yet again this time to Annapolis in recognition of Princess Anne, then heir to the British throne. During the 18th century and through the American Revolutionary War, Annapolis was noted for its very wealthy and cultivated society. However, the focus was to shift to the new harbor of Baltimore in 1780, and trade and commerce back in Annapolis declined as a result. In 1783, Annapolis became the temporary capital of the United States after the signing of the Treaty of Paris. By 1787, the city of Philadelphia had taken over the role of nation’s capital, and this was where pioneers drafted the Constitution still in force today instead.

Economy:
Traditionally, Annapolis has had its economic base in federal, state and local government thanks to its quick access to Washington, D.C. More recently, it has seen an influx of high-tech industrial development, linked closely to the high-tech corridor between Washington and Baltimore as well. Over and above an impressive assembly of internet-based services, fiber optics, telecommunications and computer-related technologies, the main industries in the City are production of radar and electronic equipment, underwater military devices and communication system r&d. The port is busy handling farm produce from surrounding agricultural areas. Tourism is thriving in Annapolis and provides work for some 12,000 residents directly and indirectly. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder why so many Annaplois movers are so busy.

Tourism:
Annapolis is a sailor’s dream come true and has been welcoming visitors for more than 300 years, and today some four million tourists arrive every year. As a visitor you can take in the nautical ambience by simply strolling down the famous waterfront or chilling out at city dock - here you can imagine what life must have been like in a busy port all those centuries ago. Shops, fine restaurants, museums, arts and culture or just plain sightseeing cruises or walks – the choice is yours, but you are sure to return again and again. For a more detailed presentation of the options checkout the City of Annapolis Maryland website.
