There’s three centuries of history to observe, romantic spots, an extensive arts and music scene, famous architecture, GLBT-friendly attractions, shopping and the natural beauty of this Southern city to take in. There’s also a great mix of notable schools in the area including Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah State University, South University and Mercer University in the area to check out. Savannah is one of the major vacation hotspots in the country right now, which only means there are numerous options to sample local cuisine and places to go for entertainment in the evening. In the city, it is easy to mix pleasure with business, which is why so many people are moving to Savannah.

Economy:
Savannah, Georgia is doing very well for itself. The ever-evolving economy keeps businesses relocating to Savannah. Tourism is thriving, manufacturers are successful and there is significant military presence in the city. The unemployment rate is relatively low, compared with some double-digits in other cities and states, at 8.3 percent. Most of the jobs in the Savannah region are in the management/professional sectors, followed by service jobs and sales and office work. The city’s leading employers are Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, producer of jet aircrafts and aerospace equipment; Georgia-Pacific Savannah River Mill, producer of paper products; International Paper, producer of paper products; JCB Americas, producer of construction equipment and Imperial sugar, manufacturer of refined sugar. With all of these exciting work opportunities, Savannah moving companies are busily bringing in new residents all the time.

History:
In general, every person who claims they know Savannah knows who James Edward Oglethorpe is. He is the founder of the Colony of Georgia in 1733. He was born in London, England and attended university in Oxford. As a member of the English Parliament, he learned how to conduct business. Oglethorpe – one of the original Georgia Trustees –came across the seas with a group of 114 settlers and landed in Beaufort, South Carolina. By traveling up the Savannah River, they discovered what is known today, as the city of Savannah.

In 1820, the city and its people faced a lot of adversity in the form of wild fire and yellow fever. There was great prosperity after those travesties until the start of the Civil War. Luckily for Savannah, Union General Sherman was so enamored with the city that he gave it as a present to President Abraham Lincoln as a Christmas present in 1864 saving it from the terror of the South.

Tourism:
Today, tourists and locals have the ability to explore Savannah in Savannah’s Landmark Historic District.
