Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Ridgewood, New York

Ridgewood is a blue-collar urban area in the borough of Queens in New York State. It is well known for its well built two-story brick homes which were constructed during the early part of the twentieth century. Once a predominantly German and Italian neighborhood, today Ridgewood is home to many South American and Eastern European families. Those moving to Ridgewood will discover an area that is within close proxmity to Manhattan within a quiet and unique community.

History:
Ridgewood started out as part of the Dutch settlement of Boswijk, or Bushwick and was incorporated into the village of Breuckelen, now Brooklyn. Onderdonk House which was built in 1709 still stands in Ridgewood and serves as a pointer to its Dutch past all those centuries ago. During the early twentieth century, New York City was developing at a pace and a lot of the construction workers were of Italian and German stock and traditionally grouped together in areas of New York State like Ridgewood and other parts of Queens. From the mid-twentieth century the ethnic make up of Ridgewood started changing to Eastern Europeans, particularly people from Poland, Latin Americans and, more recently folk from the Far East. The neighborhood of Ridgewood is distinguished from the other suburbs surrounding it by its unique fine brick two-story buildings.

Economy:
The economies of Ridgewood and Queens are closely aligned and of course events in the “Big Apple” naturally have an affect on the region too. New York is the Number One Economy in the country and is only outstripped by Tokyo in Japan on the world stage. The Stock Exchange in New York is the world’s biggest in terms of market capitalization. Tourism plays a massive part in the general well being of the area but finance, banking, insurance, health care and real estate are well up there too. Law is real big in New York, and journalism has played an influential role in developing New York’s image as a world-class center for publishing. With all of these exciting opportunities, it's no wonder why Ridgewood moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
If you are more into sightseeing when you arrive in Ridgewood then you have at your disposal the entire Queens Neighborhood which has plenty of appeal. Should this not satisfy your curiosity then there is always New York City, with the five boroughs that double as homes to some of the world’s best known landmarks and attractions. In no particular order these are The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, Times Square, Central Park and the iconic Empire State Building. The great news is that the above are all very easily accessed from Ridgewood.

Universities/Colleges:
