Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Wilmington, Delaware

New Castle County, Delaware is a wonderful place to visit -- an even better place to call home. Nationally recognized attractions, museums and festivals offer a getaway into the city’s welcoming culture. If that weren’t enough, those moving to Wilmington will discover a community is thriving with arts and culture, taxes that are low and the city’s educational opportunities are plentiful. In addition, Wilmington’s convenient location provides easy access to the rest of the nation and the world.

History:
Following the end of the Revolution and the War of 1812, Wilmington's population blossomed, the town stretched westward and streets were widened to accommodate traffic. Five turnpikes were built between 1808 and 1815, which significantly increased Wilmington's trade industry. Steamboats ran frequently between Wilmington and Philadelphia, as did stagecoaches carrying passengers and freight. One of the earliest railroads in theUS, the Newcastle & Frenchtown Railway, opened in 1831, and soon following came the Wilmington & Susquehanna. By the early 1830’s, the city’s population had grown so large that leading citizens petitioned legislature to incorporate the town as a city. The charter was approved in 1832. World War I kept all available industrial plants busy; with blast furnaces and shipyards operated 24-7. When other chemical companies moved into the region, Wilmington earned its name as "The Chemical Capital of the World." This expansion brought vast wealth to the area, and in the decades after World War II, the city experienced another large increase in population. Like many American cities, Wilmington has seen a steady flow of residents leave the city for the suburbs. The migration of the middleclass left the city to the urban poor, predominantly to blacks and the elderly, creating new challenges. Today, Wilmington is dealing successfully with the problem of urban safety. Since the mid-1990s, more than $1 billion, much of it in private funds, has been invested in major downtown redevelopment projects.

Economy:
Companies working in service industries such as health care, banking, trade and manufacturing remain Wilmington's biggest employers. The Wilmington area is home to some of the world's most prominent technology companies, including DuPont, AstraZeneca, Hercules, Incorporated and Andersen Consulting. The Delaware Technology Park in Newark is host to more than 49 technology-driven businesses. Delaware is a national corporate hub, and more than half of the Fortune 500 companies house their operations in the city because of the state's favorable corporate franchise tax laws. In addition, more than 60 banks are located in the city, MBNA Bank being the largest, employing with more than 11,000 workers. American Life Insurance Company's world headquarters is an notable anchor in the city's developing Christina Gateway, a commercial center encompassing the eastern sector to the waterfront. Chase Manhattan has invested millions of dollars in downtown offices, as have First Union, Wilmington Trust, First USA and Beneficial National Bank.

Tourism:
In Wilmington, you can experience magnificent gardens, concerts, festivals, magnificent chateau mansions, splendid museums, thriving theatre, championship golf courses, star-producing minor league baseball and a lively riverfront. For the animal lover in the group, head over to the Brandywine Zoo, located in beautiful Brandywine Park. The zoo sits on 13 landscaped acres above the Brandywine River. Hosting 150 animals, from tigers to snakes, the Brandywine Zoo is open year-round. Looking for a festival? The city offers Greek, Italian, Hispanic, African American, Chinese, Polish and German festivals to name a few. The city was also the "Last Stop to Freedom" on the Underground Railroad, and its history can be explored at the museum dedicated to this historic landmark. Or, hit the Riverwalk where you can enjoy Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, or relax in one of the small recreational areas overlooking the river. The Riverfront Market offers tasty specialty foods, fresh produce, flowers and more from a variety of shop owners and vendors.
