Moving to Delaware
Congratulations on your big relocation to Delaware. After you have packed and located Delaware moving companies, it’s time to sit back and learn more about this new state that you will soon call home.

Often referred to as the "First State," Delaware was one of the original 13 states located along the Atlantic Coast. First inhibited by the Dutch, Delaware is the second smallest state (first smallest is Rhode Island) that is devised into three counties. As of 2009, Delaware is home to 885,122 residents who enjoy a flat and mild climate. Delaware is also known as the diamond state as it was said to be referred to as a jewel by Thomas Jefferson.

Capital City: Dover is the capital of Delaware and the state is bordered by New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland with coastline of approximately 29miles.

Local Activities: There is so much to see and do when you relocate to Delaware. In New Castle, you can explore the Brandywine Valley Scenic Byway and the Historic New Castle. In Kent, the Dover International Speedway and the First State Heritage Park are great (and adventurous) ways to explore Delaware. If you are moving to Sussex, you will be within close proximity to the Nanicoke Indian Museum and the DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum. Those who enjoy shopping will also enjoy a tax-free experience!

Economy: The largest employers are State of Delaware, the University of Delaware, Bank of America and Fisker Automotive. Delaware is also renowned for their agriculture and crops such as soybeans, poultry, eggs, cattle, dairy and corn.

Bird: The state bird of Delaware is the blue hen chicken.

Flower: The peach blossom is the state flower of Delaware.

Song: The state song is "Our Delaware." It was written by George B. Hynson and composed by M. S. Brown.

State Motto: The motto of Delaware is "Liberty and Independence."
