Key Questions to Ask Real Estate Attorneys

Sunday, February 13, 2011 -

By Relocation.com Staff

When looking to hire a real estate attorney that specializes in residential real estate, here are eight key questions to ask:

  1. What percent of the practice is in Real Estate?

  2. How many years is the attorney practicing in Real Estate?

  3. What accreditations and affiliations does the attorney have?

  4. How much will this cost? Is that a flat or hourly fee?

  5. What does the fee cover specifically? The attorney may have a letter of engagement that you can review. It outlines what the attorney will do for you and the fee he will charge.

  6. What is the process?

  7. Will the lawyer handle the case personally or pass it on to someone else? If so can you meet with this person?

  8. Does the lawyer foresee any problems with this transaction e.g. conflict of interest.
