The American Society of Appraisers is a good resource that can be used to locate an appraiser in your area. Members affiliated with the American Institute of Appraisers aim for professional excellence through education and accreditation. All members must begin by being interviewed and accepted as a member of the local chapter. For initial accreditation, an appraiser is screened for ethical behavior. Then he submits appraisal reports that are reviewed by peers and must pass exams laid out by the institute.
