Tools and supplies for removing wallpaper


You will need some basic tools and supplies for wallpaper removal. The following list describes the various tools that are available

Razor scraper
This scraping tool looks like a putty knife but has a slot for a replaceable blade so you always have a sharp edge

Paper Scraper
This scraper has a round knoblike handle attached to a scraping blade that cuts the paper and is sued for scraping and perforating wallpaper applied to drywall. Solvent or steam can then penetrate the adhesive layer but cannot damage the drywalls paper facing.

Wallpaper remover
Commercial wallpaper removal solvent generally works better than water however warm water can be used to remove wallpaper.

Paint roller
You can use the roller to get the water/remover solution on to the wall.

Wallpaper steamer
Rent one or buy a do-it-yourself model if you pan on doing a lot of decorating. You can then steam the wallpaper off the walls

Drop Cloths
Both plastic and canvas drop cloths are useful for protecting your floors form the watery mess. 

Masking Tape
Use the tape to tape the plastic drop cloth to the base molding to avoid running your floors

Sponge, Rags, Bucket, Towels
You can use all these to wash down walls after removing the old wallpaper.
