Toilet Size and Height

The typical height of a toilet is 14-15inches as this is convenient and comfortable for most people. Taller people can take advantage of an 18inch high toilet and these are also convenient for people who are physically challenged.

ADA (Americans with Disabilities) compliant toilets are also available for wheelchair accessibility.

Consider the following when looking in to purchasing a new toilet.
  • Size- is the toilet the right size, not too small for a large person? Consider a toilet that is slightly bigger by about 2inches and has an oversized seat for larger people.

  • Height- Consider an elevated toilet especially for anyone who struggles while lowering and raising themselves. This toilet is about 4inches taller than the standard version.

  • Clean ability – A one-piece toilet with a smooth sided bowl is really the best choice for ease of cleaning.

  • Noise- you probably want to keep the noise of the flush at a minimum especially if the toilet is in proximity to a bedroom or living room. Consider a toilet with a quiet flushing system for these areas.

  • Power Flush- Most toilet manufacturers have designed flushing systems that exceed performance standards. Typically these sue water pressure to compress air in a chamber.

  • Insulated Water Tank-To prevent condensation on the bowl and the mold and mildew that accompanies it, most toilet manufacturers offer insulated water tanks.
