Spread the Color Around


The ceiling should be lighter than the walls, which should be lighter than the floor. It looks more natural that way just as nature intended. Think of the ground outside and the sky. If you make a ceiling dark it will appear lower and if you make it bright white color appears higher.

Rugs, windows treatments and furnishings should have more color intensity than the walls, floors and ceiling. You can use more color, pattern and texture in these areas.

Accessories such as pillows, lampshades, vases can all be more dramatic in color. Distribute these colors about the room to create a rhythm.
