Patching surface cavities before painting

You can patch the small holes and cracks in the exterior siding with an exterior patching compound much like that used for interior spackling. You can also buy this in a powder form and mix with water. Make sure the compound is for exterior use.

Follow these steps to patch holes and cracks in siding of any kind.
  • Clean the hole you want to fill

  • Roughen the area with sandpaper for a better bond

  • Fill the area with patching compound

  • Allow the compound to harden and then sand. Be sure to remove any dust before finishing
