Garage Doors
It is common to see a pint failure on garage doors due to the large number of joints where water can enter. First remove all the loose paint and degloss or scruff sand then prime any bare wood and you are ready to paint. For hardwood panels, you must use an alkyd primer. After priming apply a thin based of caulk to the sides and bottom of each panel where it meets the doors stiles and rails.

If the existing finish is in good condition you can apply a topcoat to the cleaned and caulked doors.

Shutters
If you’re removed the shutters and placed them in a garage or other protected area, now’s the time to paint them. After you’ve scraped off any loose paint and made any necessary repairs feather sand the shutters and prime any bare spots. If you have a paint sprayer it works really well on shutters. A couple of light coat works better than one heavy one as the paint can drip and leave unsightly paint marks in place with metal hinges or other brackets, paint the fasteners also.
