Last Minute preparations
Before starting to paint, make sure that your path is clear and you’ve removed everything in the way. Remove storm window screens and take the screens out that are removable from screened porches. Use a drop cloth over those that are not.

Place drop cloths below the area you are painting. Use either canvas or heavy paper drop cloths to cover walks, porches, driveways and patios.

Mix paint well before using it and to avoid the problem of having differences in color between paint in one can and another, use a mixing process called boxing. Mix at least two gallons together in a large container, then when you’ve used about a gallon, add a new one and so on. Instead of carrying a large can of paint up a ladder, pour a quart in to a smaller can.
