Cleaning Stucco and Masonry

Sunday, February 13, 2011 - To rid stucco, brick, and concrete block from stains such as mold, lichens, rusting metal and chalking paint,  you first need to eliminate the problem.

For example, overhanging trees can cause mold and algae, while rust can result from the use of metal reinforcing materials in masonry construction. In most cases, you need to scrub with a chemical cleaner. Handle these cleaners with care as most are acid based and the vapors can cause damage to the lungs. Wear protective gear, including a respirator, heavy neoprene gloves and splash-proof goggles.
