Clearing and Cleaning the Room

Sunday, February 13, 2011 -

Firstly remove as much furniture as possible. Have at least three feet of work area in front of the walls. You will also need a work area to set up a table to roll out, measure and cut wallpaper in to strips.

Remove covers on electrical receptacles and light switches and cover the face of each fixture with masking tape. Be sure to shut off the power to the room from the electrical panel before removing panel covers. Cover any exposed wires with electrical tape.

Next dust and clean the walls and woodwork. Wash any dirty woodwork with a phosphate free household cleaner. If you see mildew, remove the source of the problem such as moisture within a wall or a lack of proper ventilation. Use a bleach and water mix to kill the leftover mildew spores. Never mix a bleach and ammonia as it produces a lethal gas.
